| Very pleased with this cd, as I saw Firefall in concert years ago when they opened for the Beach Boys at the then newly built Louis J. Tullio Convention Center in Erie, PA... as both groups were the first to play at that center and it is good to hear Firefall again on cd and their short lived history of fine songs they created. |

| These songs are masterful! Some 70's country rock never dies. Quite a few of my FireFall favorite poetic verse were overlooked (ie: Ol' Wing Mouth - written by Jimmy Webb...), but short of getting out the old vinyl... this satisfies a yearning for a blast from the past! Great flute solos! |

Got this disc, "Firefall's Greatest Hits" for a rediculously low price at one of 's marketplace sellers. Considering what I paid for the disc (less than $5), it was worth every penny.
If you listened to the Eagles, America, early Doobies, late-period Ambrosia, or CSN (and sometimes Y), then you may have, at one time or another, mistaken Firefall for any of the aforementioned bands. For me, Firefall sounded like a perfect melding of early Eagles & America: smooth harmonies, songs about love, nature & the road. As much as the music, I remember a couple of great album covers by Firefall, depicting gorgeous nature scenes. And any band photos that stuck in my mind had them standing, looking all hairy and earnest, amidst some beautiful Utah snowfall or in front of some snow-capped Montana mountain range.
This "Greatest Hits" pretty much covers it all as far as Firefall was concerned. All the hits, near-misses and - strangely for a best of - some innocuous filler are included. In other words, not everything here hits the mark, but enough good-time memories are evoked that I found the compilation, again, well worth the asking price.
The tunes that you are likely to remember - and which made this worth tracking down - are lite FM staples like "Just Remember I Love You", "You Are the Woman", "Livin' Ain't Livin'", the CSN-ish "It Doesn't Matter", "Goodbye I Love You", & "Strange Way", probably their last really good song. Some decent stuff emerged from the late 70's as the band went through the obligatory lineup changes, but they never seemed to match the quality of their early-period heyday. Firefall faded out, like 70's FM radio itself, and left less than a blip on the pop music radar screen.
If you have $10 to blow and were a fan of any of the early-to-mid 70's country rock bands, you could do a lot worse than this compilation. Truthfully, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised that such an historically invisible band as Firefall was responsible for so much good ear candy. |
