| Great mower! | 2008-11-24 | 4 / 5 |
| | If you are looking for a mower to get in your regular cardio workout, this is not the mower for you. This mower is easy to use and the Sens-a-Speed works great. I did jog with the mower the other day, and the Lawn-Boy did keep up with my stride, so I guess you can workout with it if you want. This is the second Lawn-Boy I have purchased in 4 months(my first one was stolen) and I am glad I upgraded to the Blade Control 10697 model. My first Lawn-boy was model 10685. I paid less for this model at than the first one! The BCS is great when you have to stop mowing to remove an object from your path. It is also great when you have to empty the bag and not have to restart the engine every time. Talking about starting, this Honda engine starts on the first pull every time and the pull does not require much effort. Great for us guys that are getting up there in years! The engine is quiet and has a speed control, in case you need to rev-up the engine for heavier than normal cutting. This is my first Honda engine mower, the Sears mower had the B&S engine. So far, so good. Though the bag is not that big, it is WAY easier to remove, empty and reinstall than my old Craftsman. And it seems it's designed better where the bag fills up completely and empties better. The Craftsman grass catcher I would have to bang on the trash can so it would empty all the way. It seemed my Craftsman had a bigger bag, but it didn't seem to fill up properly. Now in the Fall, I am mowing(with the grass catcher on) over all my fallen leaves and the Lawn-Boy picks up the leaves and my yard is super clean, no more raking leaves!! I have had this mower for about 3 months and I am happy with the performance. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that it has individual height adjustments instead of one for all four tires. They are all easy to adjust, but having just one adjustor would make this a great mower. I can't complain, I got a great price and fast delivery. |

| | pleased with the lawn mower. cut the grass twice and found mower easy to work with. |
| Still have to mow the grass... | 2008-08-18 | 5 / 5 |
| Ordered this lawnmower after my 6 year old Craftsman 21" self-propelled stopped "self-propelling" and the bag would not stay on. I did the research on Consumer Reports and Lawnboy mowers were in the top 5.
A couple of comments:
1. Shipping took 10 days with free super saver. The mower was being prepped for shipment for 7 days and then took 3 days to deliver via UPS ground. Delivery guys took one large box off truck and brought it right into garage.
2. The setup was very easy. Open box, add oil and gas. The box was slightly scuffed up in transport but the mower arrived fine. The oil level dipstick is kind of hard to gauge with clean oil so I figured oil level based on the capacity in the manual and the markings on the bottle.
3. There are two plugs (a rear plug and side discharge plug) and a rear bag. The rear plug OR the rear bag HAVE to be in place for the mower to operate. It has a safety interlock.
4. The bag is very easy to attach. Seems smaller than the bag for the old Craftsman but I wound up emptying the same amount of times. Perhaps the grass was more compacted?
5. The self-propelled feature is better for long walks. The mower basically moves as fast as you want as you apply pressure on the handle. More pressure yields faster walking speed. No pressure stops the mower though the motor keeps operating. Using the machine in tight spots is harder than an "always on fixed speed" self-propelled mower. It's harder to apply the right pressure if you are standing to the side of the mower.
6. The Honda motor is MUCH quieter than the old motor. Runs great. You can actually talk to the neighbor when it's idling.
7. The deck on this mower is steel and not aluminum but don't know if that's a long term issue. I don't see it rusting and even if it did, who really cares? It's a mower not a Porsche.
8. Blade Control works well. You have to hold a bar against the handle to engage the blade rotation. Release the bar and the motor continues but the blade is supposed to stop in 3 seconds. The motor also goes to idle while the blade is not rotating.
9. Seems powerful enough for deep grass. Since I am not mulching I can't really tell how well it does that. Seems to have good suction to pick up leaves.
10. Registered the product on line at LawnBoy's site. Based on model and serial it came up as a 2006 model. Don't know if that's why is selling them at a good price and also don't know if there even is a later model. Again, it cuts grass so who cares?
Summary: Works well. The combination of performance, ratings, features, price, and delivery seems to make it a good value. Delivery could have been faster from . |

| Buyers Beware
I ordered this item and received it (Signature Required) Filled it with gas and oil as described in the manual! It took 20 min to start it! After cutting for a 1/2 hour the mower quit, it has no compression and will not start at all. I called AOL. to file a compliant, here is their response.
Thanks for contacting us at .
I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced with this lawn
mower.
We're sorry, but due to safety reasons, we cannot accept the return of
any hazardous materials--these include items that are gas-powered, use

centers. The risk of accident is simply too great.
If the lawn mower needs to be serviced or replaced, we recommend that
you work with a local authorized dealer or contact the manufacturer

This is completely unacceptable. The mower is brand new and now I am suppose to make arrangements to get it fixed or replaced when under any other circumstances this would has been swapped out for a new one or I would have received my money back! Now I am stuck with a $500.00 peace of junk. I am really disappointed with AOL and Lawn-Boy!!!

| | I've used the mower three times. I'm done with it. When it first arrived the mulching plug was not the right size. I had to call to get a new one sent to me. The first time I used it, no problem - it ran fine. The second and third times, it took me about 40 pulls to get it to start. Now, it doesn't start at all. Save your $500 and go with another manufacturer. I now have to go through the headache of getting it serviced and God knows what this will entail. The irony is I just gave away a 14 year old mower that started on the first pull every time. Newer isn't always better when Lawn Boy is involved. |
