I bought this cable to attach my monitor system D/A converter directly to my computer. While I typically prefer to use a coaxial connection for S/PDIF audio due to reliability concerns, an optical cable was used in this application to prevent a ground loop between my 8-channel A/D/A converter, my computer, my monitor D/A converter, and subsequent power amplifiers. But I digress...
This cable is very sturdy and well built for an optical cable. It has good strain relief built into the jack, the jack itself is very sturdy, and the cable jacketing is thick enough to provide some protection from crimping or crushing.
Overall, this is a very high quality product for the price. So much so that I started looking for MediaBridge cables for other applications, but it seems as though they're focused on optical, HDMI, and single-ended patch cables. |

| Excellent quality product in look and feel. The cable includes protective caps and plastic covers for the tips to prevent damage when not in use. The cable itself is wrapped in a high quality mesh and feels quite sturdy. The one aspect I would particularly point out is the strength of the physical connection. Once inserted, it takes great and specific effort to remove the cable without damaging either the cable or the port in the device. This isn't much of a concern if this is being used in a permanent installation naturally. |

This seems to be a very well constructed cable.
Only one thing to watch out for. If you're buying it to connect a Roku device, do not buy it. The Roku box is set up so the case of the box prevents the Mediabridge cable from seating and locking into the port. The sleeve of this optical cable extends flush to the second step of the plug and there is no room for that outer sleeve to get past the Roku case far enough to seat. This is a design flaw in the Roku device, so find a cable where the outer sleeve allows the second step of the plug to be bare, which is about a sixteenth of an inch farther back than on this cable. |

BUT...
Works perfectly with Cables To Go Velocity Right Angle Adapter - Toslink to Mini Plug (40017). I use this setup to connect my Apple laptop direct to my HDTV, enjoying perfect sound. [Curiously Apple does not support full HDMI connection with sound through the Mini DisplayPort. A separate HDMI cable is used for video] |
