- A non-toxic, safe substance made up from fossils of freshwater organisms and crushed to a fine powder.
- Deadly to any insect or larvae
- D.E is completely harmless to all animals, fish, birds or in food
D.E. (Diatomaceous Earth) is a non-toxic, safe substance made up from fossils of freshwater organisms and crushed to a fine powder. The powder particles resemble bits of broken glass when observed thru a microscope. Deadly to any insect or larvae, D.E. scratches the insects waxy outer shell causing death by dehydration. D.E is completely harmless to all animals, fish, birds or in food. This makes D.E. (Diatomaceous Earth) an excellent natural topical dusting powder for animals with fleas, ticks, lice and other external pests. D.E. (Diatomaceous Earth) can also be used as a oral nutritional supplement in feed or fed straight during parasite season for animals with skin and coat needs associated with internal parasites.

RAID has nothing on this stuff. NOTHING. If applied thoroughly to a roach-infested piece of furniture, they will be gone in a matter of days, and not ever come back. I've tried everything under the sun, and this is the best thing I've ever come across. Buy it. The only disadvantage is that it does leave a white powdery residue, obviously. It's hard to brush or sweep off of things because it's so extremely fine. However, if your place is full of cockroaches, you've got nothing to lose. A thin veneer of powder is cleaner than a stinking nest of nasties.
As for fleas, I gave some to my mom in law and... sorry, it just doesn't work well. You'd need to keep the cats/ dogs dusted every day or two, and they will keep licking it off of themselves. I don't imagine that it's great for their stomach, even if it is nontoxic. It does help the bedding and carpets, but not the animals themselves. Suck it up, go to the vet, and get some Advantage or Frontline. Don't make your pets suffer because you're super hung up on being ecologically friendly. |

| This stuff is great, it's safe and effective. This is all that I will use to control fleas and bugs that annoy us and our cats. |

| Shipped quickly and helped me kill the fleas that had invaded the carpet in a bedroom - brought in by two cats I was watching for a friend. Thanks so much! |
| Caution...pool filter grade NOT safe for humans and pets | 2008-05-26 | 5 / 5 |

Please know that the "food" grade/diatomaceous earth meant for use to combat insects (indoors and out) is the only product safe around pets and humans. I am shopping for this grade. Please do NOT make the serious mistake (as suggested by another reviewer) of purchasing a product meant for use in pool filters...it is dangerous for any other use. As to this particular brand: Though I have not yet purchased it, I like the shaker availability and may use it to apply the DE, refilling from a larger bag.
Consider applying outdoors on a day that not too windy---it's best not to be breathing this although it's not poisonous. It's an irritant. Avoid getting some in your eyes and be sure to wash your hands well after using it.
I'll be using DE to rid some areas outside of bugs, especially around the foundation of our house. Garter snakes have taken up an unpleasant residence there---and frankly their presence is extremely disturbing to us. I have read numerous places that one way to discourage them is to take away one typical food source: bugs. I'm allergic to moth balls (and they produce poisonous fumes); commercial repellants are generally not effective. Wish us luck. And please know that no amount of pro-reptile talk will have us change our minds. Call it "fear and loathing on the back patio."
In fairness to this brand, I have rated it high although I don't have direct experience with this company. (It's not possible to make comments without giving a rating.) The dangerous suggestion to use pool grade DE I'm sure was unintentional. |

this product is also used in swimming pool filters.
it is available from pool stores for around ten or twelve bucks for a 20 lb bag!
i don't know if it really works for killing bugs, but you can save a huge amount of money by buying it in a big bag! |
