Keep your 10-watt or larger solar panels from overcharging your 12-volt battery with the Brunton Solar Controller battery charge monitor. Even the best solar panel in the world loses its luster when it overcharges your car battery and creates a steaming pool of acid and battery scuzz on the driveway. The Solar Controller overcomes this by maintaining your battery in its fully charged state, so you don't need to worry that your solar panels will do their job too well. Just leave your battery connected and the charge light will keep you informed of the charger's progress, with lights that indicate when the battery is charging and when the charging is complete.
The Solar Controller--which handles up to 7 amps of array input and 100 watts of solar power--works with such Brunton panels as the SolarFlat 15 (up to five units), the SolarRoll 14, or the Solaris 25 (up to three units) solar panels. Whether your Brunton solar panel doesn't offer built-in overcharge protection or you just want the peace of mind a charge monitor offers, you'll love the Solar Controller. The Solar Controller, which is designed for 12-volt solar panels and batteries only, measures 2.7 by 3.8 by 1 inches (W x H x D), weighs 4.2 ounces, and carries a one-year warranty.

I bought this charge controller to use with a 20 watt solar panel to charge a 12 volt 10 AH battery. I use the battery to power a LED light in my bathroom.
This controller is exactly like the Sunforce, Global Solar, and other 7amp charge controllers you find online. I have used this controller with 80 watts of panel without a problem. You have to follow the instructions and ALWAYS connect the unit to your battery first. When disconnecting ALWAYS disconnect your battery last. I do not leave it out in the weather so I cannot offer an opinion on its ability to resist weathering.
I would purchase it again without hesitation. |

| Small, simple installation with a 12 watt panel source, maintains the 2 batteries I have on the load side very well. |

I've been using this unit to charge a 75ah deep cycle for almost 2 years using a Kyocera KS20 (21voc, 1amp sc)
Its simple and cheap and would highly recommend it for small battery packs and small arrays putting out less than 6amps. |

I've been using this with my solar panels since early summer this year. This does exactly what it should. The indicator lights on it are handy so you can see if your battery is receiving voltage from the panels, and you can see if you batteries are fully charged or charging.
I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to piece together a small inexpensive 12V solar power system.
Note - You may want to consider a larger capacity charge controller if you are thinking about expanding your system down the road. |
| Does its job, but could be more panel friendly... | 2009-07-12 | 4 / 5 |

I use this with a Solaris 26 solar panel. Though both products are made by Brunton, their integration is rather lame. Panel to controller hook-up is not plug-&-play easy, & will require you to buy some wire connectors from your local hardware store.
Other than that, does what it's supposed to do. It does not have a removable cover where you can disconnect the wires from the terminal & attach longer or thicker gauge wires... that would be nice.
Add this to your watch list, I purchased mine about 3 months ago for $18 after watching it fluctuate from $20-$25. |
