| Still a viable magazine but it lost its luster over the years. Not much for the format of the magazine and I miss Howard Phillips. And what's with all of the ads? |

| Love this magazine! Truthfully, I got it for my son who has a Wii (and now recently a DS..) but it is a little over his level to read (he's 8) But we sat together and read a GREAT article....10 Great Wii Games You're not playing...and why you SHOULD.... it was great...informative, interesting. This was a FABULOUS deal thru ...only $5 and it is a really super magazine that I know, as someone that is NOT a gamer, I will use to pick out future games for our son, my husband and friends .... |
| The definitive source on Nintendo! | 2010-06-30 | 5 / 5 |

Marketers would me call a "casual gamer". Since I could only afford to buy one game console, I invested in the Wii and the DSi because since my childhood days, Nintendo has consistently released titles that captivated me (namely, Mario and Zelda). I rarely visit game websites (because most of the time the news doesn't relate to me), but I wanted to stay on top of gaming developments and releases.
So, like many people, I subscribed to Game Informer. However, I found that this magazine largely neglected Nintendo news (in favor of Sony and Microsoft). I assume this stems from the fact that the magazine caters to the "hardcore" gaming segment, which negatively perceives the Wii as a "casual" machine. Admittedly, I do enjoy reading about Sony and Microsoft - in the faint hopes that one day I will own one of their consoles - but unfortunately, until that day arrives, what they do doesn't immediately apply to me (except as it affects the larger scope of gaming technology).
So, I sought a Nintendo-centric magazine, and voila, I discovered Nintendo Power. What a pleasure to finally have more than just a few pages devoted to my gaming devices! I've already purchased several games alerted to me by the magazine. "Fragile Dreams" comes to mind. The game blew me away - but without the magazine, I never would've heard of it! With shoe-ins like Zelda, I know the game not when it hits the shelves, but months in advance!
The magazine keeps Nintendo fans in the loop, but it also keeps families in the loop. Once I finish reading my copy, I hand it down my younger brother; when he finishes it, I give it to my little sister-in-law. Kids love this magazine and it provides me with a great way to keep meaningfully connected with my siblings. They always look forward to the next copy!
With colorful layouts and a wide array of news from the silly to the serious, Nintendo Power establishes itself as a definitive source on all things Nintendo, packing all relevant information into one fun punch!
UPDATE: I recently moved and needed to change my address (USPS forwarding easily tacks on an extra week to delivery). I contacted NP customer service via the Subscription Manager to notify them of my new address. They responded quickly and the next issue arrived seamlessly. |
